About Brian Pack


Brian Pack distinguished himself in his career as a science educator and scientist.

He was cited three times as the Outstanding High School Teacher of The Year, The United States Department of Education Presidential Scholar Teacher Award,  The University of Wisconsin Outstanding Teacher Award for Junior Science and Humanities Symposia, The International Science and Engineering Fair mentor of the Year, Siemens Foundation Advanced Placement Teacher of the Year, American Chemical Society Wisconsin Teacher of the Year, Coach of the six-time state champion Academic Decathlon, Originator of the central city Our Next Generation tutoring program at his high school, Originator of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Summer High School Scholars Biomedical Engineering program.


Summer experiences included NIH-sponsored research in the Molecular Biology Department at UW-Madison (effects of mercury on the activity of bacterial ribosomes), University of Wisconsin Medical School’s Department of Oncology (characterization of the protein structure in the nuclear envelope of mammalian liver cells), University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Biology (Quantification of hemoglobin in polyacrylamide gels with benzidine), The Medical College of Wisconsin Microbiology (Chromatographic purification of interferon with cultured mammalian cells), a thirteen-year stint with The City of Milwaukee Water Department quality control, and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Chemistry (analysis of zinc-bound proteins in mammalian cells and the effects of poisons such as lead and cadmium on their structure).
